WHAT WE DO

In our work with teachers and principals, we often hear the cries:
"We have to do character education, but we don't know what to do."
"We've been doing character education for several years now. Where do we go from here?"

Professor Alan Saunders with a group of educators at a character education and life skills workshop in St. Vincent, the Caribbean.

"Doing" character education can seem like an extra burden on the already over-burdened educator. This is where we can help. We are Alan and June Saunders, a husband and wife team. Our work over the last decade has brought us into contact with some of the finest minds in the character education field. Dr. Thomas Lickona, author of the seminal work on character education, Educating for Character, wrote the Foreword to a book June co-authored and Alan helped produce on character education. Cultivating Heart and Character: Educating for Life's Most Essential Goals was published by the Character Development Group, one of the premier character education groups in the country.

We have been privileged to present on character education and conflict resolution at numerous conferences: the U.S. Air Force Academy's National Character Education Symposium, held at the U.S. Air Force Academy, the National Middle School Association's Urban Conference, the annual Queens High Schools Conflict Resolution conference, and the Association of
Teacher Educators annual conference, among others.

We have also presented on relationships education at the annual Coalition for Marriage, Family and Couples Education conference and the Academy for Character Education at Hudson Valley Community College, as well as at The Consortium for Social Responsibility and Character in Education at University of Central Florida.
