On March 24th, 2005 in Conference Room # 1, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, Mr. Alan Saunders spoke on the topic: The Challenge of HIV/AIDS in Conflict and Post-Conflict Societies. The event was cosponsored by the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, Saving Lives through Alternate Options, and the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace. Over 100 people attended the event, which had a very lively question and answer session.

The event was also co-sponsored by the NGO Committee on Children's Rights, the NGO Committee on HIV/AIDS, the NGO Committee on Human Rights, the NGO Committee on the Family of the Conference of NGOs (CONGO), New York

Mr. Yves Moreau, a community leader from Samoa and Mr. Alan Saunders, a character education consultant from the US convened a very successful character education and life skills workshop at the American Samoa Community College on November 18th, 2005. Over 25 prominent leaders from American Samoa attended the workshop.

Prior to the seminar, reporters from the Samoan TV station interviewed Mr. Saunders and Mr. Moreau along with Rev. Aiono Malaetia of the Methodist Church. The interviews were shown on national TV the following week.

Alan Saunders visited the High School of the Pacific (HSP) in Kona, Hawaii in November 2005.

He met with the President of the HSP, Mr. Kem Mylar, and the Head of the School, Mr. Bart
Mwarey. The group discussed developing a character education initiative for the high school
and the Pacific islands.

The High School of the Pacific has youth from throughout the Pacific region and is implementing
leadership programs for these teenagers. Cross-cultural communication and conflict resolution
techniques, as well as peer mentoring, are highlights of the program to develop leaders for the
Pacific island nations.

Mr. Saunders also spoke to the students about character education and relationship skills enhancement.
